In class we had the great fortune to welcome Yasuomi SAWA, a journalist with the Kyodo News, who spoke with us about his personal experiences.
Mr. Sawa gave us insight into his own journey to becoming a newsperson, his transformation into an international journalist, and his motivations.
Although we've been discussing many high-profile events, Mr. Sawa was able to give us an intimate look into how the news is reported in Japan and abroad. I hope many of us will continue to follow Mr. Sawa on Twitter, and apply his insights when we read the news.
In particular, I appreciated how Mr. Sawa shared with us the latest story he's been following about part-time workers at an izakaya chain. The story opens up larger issues about labor rights in Japan, and also provided an example of how journalists can be "voices for the voiceless."
I'm eager to hear your reactions to Mr. Sawa's presentation. What information surprised you, and what left an impression on you? Please feel free to include any other questions you have for Mr. Sawa.
Honestly, I had stereotype to journalists. It was that journalists are cold and doing whatever it is to get information. Since I met Sawa-san, my image for journalists has completely changed. He is so passionate and eager to change the world through journalism as a journalist.
ReplyDeleteAs to presentation, I got big impression from that advertisements shows who target is. It reminds me of Asahi Kodomo shimbun. I always read Asahi Shimbun, and I often see advertisement for kids. I thought how broad this newspaper is for.
It was really interesting for me!
Before starting last week's class, I was nervous. However, when I listened to his talk, I got obsorbed precious stories. Mr.Sawa's view was profitable for me. I will care about his Twitter.
ReplyDeleteI have come to long for the job like Mr.Sawa. Since,He can know a feeling who take participate in a important part of politics.I sometimes think what they think in the mind.
ReplyDeleteMr.sawa's presentation is very interesting for me to show the other aspect of journalism. thank you very much Mr.sawa!
This was the first time when I talked with a journalist.
ReplyDeleteIn Mr. SAWA 's presentation, he compared news story in Japan to in other countries. News story in Japan is less detailed. I think this tendency can get Japanese people not to consider to many news deeply. Therefore, I'm welling to read various new sorces.
I had a great time in last class. I want to talk with him.
